The Faithfulness of God

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

  “Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
   There is no shadow of turning with thee;
   Thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
    As thou has been, thou forever wilt be.

   Great is thy faithfulness!  Great is thy faithfulness!
   Morning by morning new mercies I see;
   All I have needed thy hand hath provided;
   Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!”
[-- Lyrics from The United Methodist Hymnal #140]

   “Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side.
    Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
    Leave to your God to order and provide;
    In every change God faithful will remain.
    Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend
    Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

    Be still, my soul: your God will undertake
    To guide the future, as in ages past.
    Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;
    All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
    Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
    The Christ who ruled them while he dwelt below.”
[--Lyrics from The United Methodist Hymnal #534]

Over and over the scriptures speak of the faithfulness and steadfastness of God in the middle of a world of change.   Because of that steadfast faithfulness, none of us need to fear no matter what changes or transitions occur around us.

In the words of Psalm 46:2, “Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.”  After all, while none of knows what the future holds, we DO know WHO holds the future!

So, no matter what it is you are facing in life today, give thanks to and trust God, and never let fear of the future keep us from the joys and blessings of the present!  Remember, God loves you and I do, too!
